David Hill’s practice covers the full spectrum of intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on patents. With over 17 years as a patent attorney, Mr. Hill is experienced in preparing and prosecuting patent applications and reexaminations, and providing client counseling and opinions regarding enforcement, licensing, and product design alternatives. His experience encompasses a broad range of technologies across the mechanical, electrical, computer, and semiconductor industries. More specifically, Mr. Hill has vast experience with the life sciences, especially mass spectrometry and NMR systems & software, financial transaction systems, telecommunication networks and systems, bicycle and motorcycle technologies, laser technologies, computer hardware and software, semiconductors and beauty and skin care products.  In addition, Mr. Hill regularly counsels clients on patent and trademark protection, clearance, licensing, and enforcement strategies, and interferences, reexaminations and reissue applications.

Mr. Hill offers clients a valuable combination of legal, business and scientific expertise. In addition to prosecuting patents, Mr. Hill counsels clients on practical aspects of patent licensing and responding to challenges from competitors. Mr. Hill has represented business and industry leaders in litigations in various U.S. district and appellate courts. His deep understanding of complex technologies and practical experience enables him to communicate effectively with scientists, inventors and business leaders to create and enforce the broadest patents possible to meet their business goals.

Mr. Hill has represented both foreign and domestic clients of all sizes to protect a broad array of inventions with detailed experience in both consumer and industrial technologies. Mr. Hill counsels his foreign and domestic clients on intellectual property portfolio development and management, legal opinions, patent prosecution and litigation strategies. He has successfully prosecuted patents and defended industry-leading systems and methods, and advises his clients on inventorship, business methods, patentability, validity and enforceability.  When needed, Mr. Hill also represents both foreign and domestic clients before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI) and in disputes in district court litigation.
